MONTREAL 2023
Over the summer, I participated in an immersive intensive French language course in Montreal, Canada, to improve my language skills. The classes were held in a school located within a renovated old church building, now serving as a community space.
BUENOS AIRES 2022
With the Rackham Graduate Student Research grant, I could undertake preliminary dissertation research in Buenos Aires. This region has historically figured official and non-official narratives as the Argentine “ciudad de la oligarquía” (oligarchy city).
RECIFE 2022
I was awarded the LACS Tinker Field Research Fellowship. I stayed four weeks in Recife to find local and regional films and video productions that negotiate new waves of progress that come with neoliberal urbanization and the rebuilding of cities. For me, visiting the Brazilian Northeast also meant revisiting ideas of a fictional Northeast.
ANN ARBOR, MI 2020-2022
My pandemic home office. Lots of hours are spent here: reading, writing, zooming, listening to podcasts, watching food recipe videos, etc.
TUCSON, AZ 2019
Every year the University of Arizona organizes a Language Fair. Many graduate students would volunteer to set up a both and plan activities that showcase diverse cultural traditions, including music, dances, and foods.
CLAREMONT, CA 2017
As part of the Fulbright FLTA program, I could share some of the Brazilian cultures outside of the classroom and organize events like a Maracatu workshop at the Claremont Colleges.
BOGOTA 2016
I have worked with exceptional students who shared a passion for studying Portuguese and Brazilian cultures. I helped students prepare for the Celpe-Bras exam (certificate of proficiency in Brazilian Portuguese).
MEXICO CITY 2014
I was invited to talk about the twelve host cities for the 2014 World Cup. We addressed the immediate and long-term impacts that the event represented on the lives of people and their communities.
